The Barwaaqo Somalia Water for Rural Resilience Project aims to enhance water, agriculture, and environmental services for rural communities in Somalia's drylands.
The project consists of four main components, with the first focusing on the development of multiuse water sources, which will be executed by the ministries of water in Somaliland and Federal Member States, along with the Puntland Water Development Agency.
This initiative is designed to address the pressing needs for sustainable water management and agricultural support in the region.
With a total project cost of US$ 70.00 million, the project is expected to significantly improve access to water and agricultural resources, thereby fostering resilience among rural populations.
The initiative is currently active, with an effective date of January 20, 2023, and is set to close on February 29, 2028.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Planning Investment and Economic Development and aims to create lasting impacts on the livelihoods of the communities it serves.
