Support to CIVIL Society Engagement in Somalia’s Federal Member States District Council Elections – 2026

The project aims to support civil society engagement in the upcoming district council elections in Somalia's Federal Member States, scheduled for 2026.

This initiative is crucial for advancing local-level democratization, enhancing political participation, and fostering accountability within decentralized governance structures.

By empowering civil society organizations (CSOs) in areas such as voter education and election observation, the project seeks to ensure a credible and inclusive electoral process that encourages citizen involvement and strengthens public trust in local governance.

Implemented under the EU Governance Facility Project for Somalia, this initiative aligns with the European Union's priorities for promoting transparent and accountable governance.

The focus will be on the regions of Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and South West State, where increased civil society engagement is expected to lead to improved electoral outcomes and a more responsive governance framework.
