The Somalia Enabling Financial Inclusion for the Poor ('Kalkaal') Project aims to enhance financial inclusion for low-income groups by introducing new, legal, low denomination national currency notes and replacing old and counterfeit notes in circulation.
The project encompasses a range of activities, including the design and printing of new banknotes, implementation of currency exchange, and capacity building for the Central Bank of Somalia.
With a total project cost of approximately US$72 million, the initiative is designed to ease everyday transactions and strengthen the financial infrastructure in Somalia.
